Year Of Discipline Apparently Isn’t Original
So, the other Year Of Discipline blog is accusing me of lifting the idea. No big deal. I didn’t lift the idea, as I have been thinking about this since the middle of November. But, I did stumble on the blog when I Googled “Year of Discipline” when I was thinking about purchasing YearofDiscipline.com.
When I first found it, I was surprised. I thought someone I told started the blog based off my idea. But then, I really thought about it. I mean, the idea wasn’t terribly original. So, I thought, it’s conceivable that someone else came up with the same thing — after reflecting on what was lacking in their life. (I actually thought it was neat that two completely different people would have the same idea.)
So, I mentioned the person at the bottom of my About page, and even added their blog to my blogroll. I said that I respected what this person was doing, and hoped they stayed committed.
Then, the person calls me out, saying I lifted the idea. So, I looked into it.
Apparently, the idea isn’t original, and it doesn’t come from either of us. There’s a Facebook group on it that was started last year. I also found a blog called Cross Life that featured a “Year of Discipline” theme last year.
Alas, neither of us is the originator of the idea. To me, it’s not a big deal. I’m not doing this for any other reason than to improve aspects of my life, and share my progress. This never was, or never will be, about credit for the idea.
Matter of fact, I hope this blog inspires someone else to try it. I would hope that the other blogger feels the same way.
